THE GOSPEL PLAN OF SALVATION
The gospel, the faith, that which we refer to as Christianity, was once for all (time; "hapax" ) delivered in its entirety, unto the saints in the 1st century, it was in danger of being perverted by false teachers, thus it was to be contended for (Jude 3). . .
"Beloved, while I was giving all diligence to write unto you of our common salvation, I was constrained to write unto you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered unto the saints."
It contains FACTS to believe (Jn 20:30-31; Cor 15:3-4; Heb 11:6, ect),
COMMANDS to obey (Acts 2:38; 8:37; 10:48; 17:30-31; Jn 4:24; Rom 10:9-10; 1 Pet 1:15; ect),
PROMISES to receive (Eph 1:3; 1 Thess 4:16-17; Tit 1:2; 1 Pet 1:3-5; ect),
And WARNINGS to heed (Mt 10:28; Lk 13:3; Jn 3:5; 8:24; 1 Cor 10:12; 2 Thess 1:8-9; Heb 2:1-4; 10:23-31; ect).
God's plan of salvation is included in this, and was that which Jesus gave to His apostles in that which we commonly refer to as the great commission (Mt 28:18-20; Mk 16:15-16). . .
"Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world."
" And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned."
There was a form, a pattern of teaching, which when obeyed from the heart (Rom 6:17), resulted in salvation (Rom 6:18; Heb 5:9), any one that teaches a different gospel other than that which was preached in the 1st century is accursed of God ("anathema" - devoted to Gehenna Hell without the hope of redemption; Gal 1:6-9). . .
"I marvel that ye are so quickly removing from him that called you in the grace of Christ unto a different gospel; which is not another gospel only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema. As we have said before, so say I now again, if any man preacheth unto you any gospel other than that which ye received, let him be anathema."
It was preached by Peter on that first Pentecost after the resurrection and ascension of Jesus (Acts 2:38), it was the same plan that was to be preached unto all the nations as commanded by the Lord (Luke 24:47). Is this the plan you preach? Is this the plan that you heard? It better be, remember Gal 1:8-9!
Example after example, in the book of Acts, leaves no doubt what the Lord commands of us today,(Acts 2:36-47; 8:4-13; 8:26-39; 9:1-20 & 22:6-16; 10:1-48 & 11:1-18; 16:13-15; 16:23-34; 18:8; 19:1-7). The bible was written for the common man, you can understand it (John 8:32; Eph 3:4), and it means exactly what it says.
1. The GOSPEL is the power of God unto salvation (Rom. 1:16)
Those who are Christians are commanded to teach the gospel to all nations (Matt. 28:18-20, Mark 16:15).
2. Those who HEAR (Rom 10:17) the gospel are to BELIEVE that God exists, and rewards those that earnestly seek after Him (Heb 11:6), and that Jesus is the Christ, the resurrected Son of God, Who is Master (Lord) over all (Mark 16:16; Jn 8:24; Rom 10:9), for no one comes to the Father except through Christ (Jn 14:6). (What early Christians believed about faith only salvation)
3. Belief (faith) is to lead men to REPENT of their past sins (Luke 13:3, 5, 5; Acts 2:38; 17:30), repentance is a change in mind that brings about a changed life. This is brought about by learning of the goodness of God and seeing one's own lost condition (Rom. 2:4).
4. They must verbally CONFESS that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God and also show it forth by living a holy life unto God (Acts 8:37; Rom. 10:10; 1 Tim 6:12; 1 Pet 1:15). Jesus also stated that if we confess Him before men, He will confess us before His Father. If we deny Him, He will deny us (Matt. 10:32-33).
5. We are to be BAPTIZED
into His death (Rom 6:3), where His blood was shed (Jn 19:34), one is to be "immersed" ("baptizo") in water, this word does not refer to "sprinkling" ("rhantismos" 5 times in the NT; "rhantizo" 1 time in the NT; "proschusis: 1 time in the NT) or "pouring," ("ekcheo"/
"ekchuno" 31 times in the NT) the bible has these words, this is not those words. The word "baptizo" was used in the 1st century of when a ship sank in the Mediterranean Sea, this refers to a complete immersion in water. Baptism is for the purpose of (into; "eis") the forgivness of sins (Mark 16:15-16; Acts 2:38, 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:20-21), and simultaneously puts one "in Christ" (Rom 6:3-4; Gal 3:26-27), the place where every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places are located (Eph. 1:3), including salvation. The bible teaches no other way wherein one enters into that location known as "in Christ" except through baptism (Rom 6:3; Gal 3:27) (What early Christians believed about baptism)
6. Then, we are to BE HOLY IN ALL MANNER OF LIVING (1 Pet 1:15), the word "holy" means "set apart," "separated" FROM the ways of the world and "separated" TO the ways of God, this is to take place in all aspects of our lives, being transformed day by day by the renewing of our minds (Rom 12:2; 2 Cor 4:16; Eph 4:23-24; Col 3:10) through study and earnest application of the Holy Spirit revealed and confirmed living word of the living God.
